perhaps I wasn't too clear when I was talking about the good cop/bad cop dogma. That's my own baggage and my own perception of the faith (before I was old enough to know what Manichaeism was), that it always reminded me of a family where parents divided the roles of nurturer and disciplinarian. One parent to spoil the child, the other to spank him whenever he grew too greedy.
though, the film itself, I did find to be fairly heavy on black and white morality. pretty much the only figure who seemed at all morally conflicted and/or grey was Pilate, and even his portrayal was less than sympathetic.
